About Le Magor

Built on the site of fortifications dating back to before the 15th century, Le Magor is a small hamlet on the Southern edge of the Regional Parc d’Armorique in the Monts d’Arrée. Situated at the top of the South side of the Elez Valley we enjoy fantastic views, nature and wildlife.
The name Magor is derived from the Celtic ‘Magwyr’ meaning ‘wall’ or ‘masonry enclosure’.

The gîte is a very cosy cottage – perfect for couples, with or without young children, and friends travelling together. We’ve renovated it with natural materials and made it a comfortable place to be all year round.

Guests have their own private garden with  panoramic views of the Monts d’Arrée and the Chapel of Saint Herbot. You also have access to five hectares of attached private land which you are more than welcome to explore and relax on.

The geographically central location of the gîte makes it the perfect base for exploring both inland and coastal Finistère in either Summer or Winter months.  Finistère’s three coastlines to the North, West and South can all be reached in about an hour from Magor. Exploring the over 1200 kilometres of coastline that forms the three peninsulas of Finistère is a true pleasure.

The nearest beach is a 45 minute drive away. Driving in Finistère  is a treat – the  roads are quiet, the views are lovely and the landscape is constantly changing.

Inland Finistère is a nature lover’s treasure trove – hundreds of walking paths, the Nantes Brest canal, the statues at the Vallée des Saints, rugged hills, historic chapels and the many Neolithic menhirs and dolmens which pepper the countryside.

The popular town of Huelgoat is 10 minutes down the road. Huelgoat (High Wood in Breton) is famous for it’s beautiful forest. You can spend hours walking the trails trough this magical place, dominated by streams, waterfalls and stunning formations of huge granite boulders. Here you will also find amenities like restaurants, bakeries, a weekly market and a supermarket.
